CINCINNATI, OH – Jan. 16, 2018 – The American Heart Association | American Stroke Association has teamed up with Powernet, the Avondale Comprehensive Development Corporation (ACDC) and Gabriel’s Place to host the Taste of Avondale on January 16, 2018. The event will take place at 4:00 p.m. at Gabriel’s Place off Reading Road. Edita Dolan-Mayo of Powernet is the primary organizer of the Taste of Avondale.

“We wanted to make a long-lasting, sustainable impact on the health of Avondale residents,” said Dolan-Mayo. “By providing the appropriate tools, direction and motivation, our hope is to change minds about healthy eating. Ideally, we want the healthy choice to be the default choice.”

As part of their holiday campaign, Powernet employees collected and donated 65 crockpots and ladles. The American Heart Association matched each crockpot with a slow cooker recipe cookbook. Avondale residents who received them were invited to participate in the Taste of Avondale in January. The event is a healthy cooking contest for the community and the categories include: soups and chilis, meats, side dishes, desserts, “Avondale Only,” and healthy. The contest will have “all you can eat” samples included with $3 admission for the public.
